Last year’s inaugral Possum Purge at Paparoa School saw organisers plucking around 800 possums. This year they are hoping for more.

Our aims for the possum hunt are to be part of the solution in controlling possums in the area, teach the students about the possum as a pest and raise some funds form the sale of the fur.

Hunting of Possums will occur on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 September with a Sausage Sizzle and Prize giving on Sunday 12 September from 12 midday at Paparoa School.

Fonterra at Maungaturoto, and other businesses have been fantastic in providing the PTA with great sponsorship so hunters will vie for at least $3000 worth of prizes.

The team who brings in the most possums or fur will receive $1000 worth of prizes. There are also lots of spot prizes for adults and kids, including kids heaviest possum.

All pre-registrations will go into a draw for a Bay of Islands Holiday Weekend. Registration is only $10 for adults, while kids with adults are free. Registration is also available at the prize giving on Sunday.

Sausage sizzle, fun activities and kids competitions will occur at the prize giving/gala including Bouncy Castle and Slide.

Registration forms are available at Paparoa Primary School, Skeltons Paparoa, Paparoa Hotel, RD1 Maungaturoto, Stirling Sports Whangarei, or email
